Kijani Lamu Hotel
In the village of Shela, on the island of Lamu – just off the Kenya Coast – Kijani Hotel offers a unique accommodation with its 3,000 sq. metres of tropical garden. Located directly at the sea front with two fresh water swimming pools. Swiss owner Pierre Oberson created Kijani House to revive the tradition of stone Swahili houses and create an authentic retreat for visitors looking to experience Lamu’s past.
Accommodation:Kijani Hotel has 10 rooms all ensuite with 26 beds. Each room has a bathroom and has its own balcony or veranda facing the garden or the sea. There is also a safe in each room.The rooms are spread throughout the garden into three small separate traditional Swahili buildings which formerly were private homes, made of coral walls, with boriti ceiling and makuti roofs.
The Restaurant:The kitchen offers all types of fish, lobsters, crabs and prawns fresh from the sea, along with meat and fresh vegetables, together with African and Italian specialities.We bake our own bread, produce marmalade and yoghurt with the fresh product from our small farm on the island, which also provides eggs and honey.
