Step Back in Time To an Age of Grandeur

Crossing the Rift Valley and climbing the steppe onto the green and rolling hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater, there lies a truly undeniable surprise and one that will be a home-away-from-home.

Old World Charm,New World Hospiatality

The Manor at Ngorongoro, located in the north west Tanzania and with its 9 luxurious cottages (18 Suites), family cottage, and magnificent main Manor House, is one of the first safari lodges of its kind to blend East African hospitality with old-world Afro-European architecture and decor. Located adjacent to the famous Ngorongoro conservation area and within a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, The Manor is reminiscent of an elegant up-country farm home in the Cape Dutch-style of architecture.

Activities at The Manor at Ngorongoro

A Game Drive in the Ngorongoro Crater

Following an early morning breakfast, and leaving in plenty of time to capture the best views of the Crater as the mist begins to lift, your Ngorongoro Crater Tour will be certainly a day to remember.

A large, unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera is the pride of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater, which formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two to three million years ago is “a natural enclosure” for a very wide variety of wildlife, there is a resident population of Ngorongoro lions, as well as wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and rhino.

The Ngorongoro Crater, a large, unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera is the pride of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater, which formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two to three million years ago, is 610 m (2,000 ft) deep and its floor covers 260 km2 (100 sq mi). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from fifteen to nineteen thousand feet (4500 to 5800 metres) high.

Lunch on the Ngorongoro Crater Floor

Your full day safari experience would not be complete without enjoying a delicious campaign style luncheon, served under canopy at one of the picnic areas in the Crater. Surrounded by game and the crater rim beyond, this is the most dramatic and beautiful picnic lunch you ever likely to take.

A Game Drive in Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara is a shallow lake in the Natron-Manyara-Balangida branch of the Great Rift Valley in Tanzania. Said by Ernest Hemingway to be the “loveliest [lake] … in Africa,” it is also the home of a diverse set of landscapes and wildlife.

The name Manyara comes from the Maasai word emanyara, which is a euphorbia species of plant that is grown into a hedge around a family homestead (Euphorbia tirucalli).

The name “is a Masai description not for the lake, but in general for a lake shore region.”

Of the 127 square miles (329 km2) of Lake Manyara National Park, the lake’s alkaline waters (with a pH near 9.5[4]) cover approximately 89 square miles (231 km2), though the area and pH fluctuate widely with the seasons, and dry spells expose large areas of mud flats. While most known for baboons, the lake and its environs is also home to herbivores such as hippos, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes.

Giant fig trees and mahogany seen in the groundwater forest immediately around the park gates draw nourishment from the underground springs replenished continuously from crater highlands directly above the Manyara basin. Leading away from the forest to the fringes of Lake Manyara are the flood plains. To the south are visible the acacia woodlands. Leopards, although in abundance, are hard to get a glimpse of, just like the other elusive carnivores – the lions – of this park.
